KARACHI, June 30: A staffer of Dawn was badly wounded in a road accident on Sharea Faisal on late Wednesday night. Sports reporter Ian Fyfe was on his scooter near the Nursery traffic section when a speeding car (Z-6118) rammed into him from behind, police said. The victim was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where after initial treatment he was referred to the Liaquat National Hospital.

The car was driven by a youngster identified as Fahad, son of Colonel Ahsan, who introduced himself as serving in the ISI, police said. Police claimed that following the accident Fahad was detained at the Ferozabad police station.

According to the police, the boy’s father went to the JPMC and talked to the victim’s sister, persuading her to say that they did not want any legal course of action.

Police claimed that the victim’s sister also gave a written statement which was submitted at the police station.

Subsequently, the case was not lodged at the police station and the young man was released by the police.
