KARACHI: A local court on Friday remanded a suspect, who had allegedly gunned down a man in presence of policemen, in judicial custody.

Police claimed to have detained Sohail Mughal for allegedly killing 37-year-old Munawwar Ali over “honour” in the presence of policemen within the remit of the New Town police station on Jan 13.

On Friday, the investigating officer produced him before the judicial magistrate (East) Shoaib Ilahi upon the expiry of his three-day physical remand in police custody.

The judge remanded the suspect in judicial custody and directed the IO to submit the investigation report on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, Mughal had allegedly shot dead Ali over a dispute involving the custody of his estranged wife and three daughters.

The suspect had filed a case for the recovery of his wife and three daughters.

The court had directed the Darakshan police to recover the four women and present them in court.

On a court order, the suspect accompanied the policemen to meet his family on Sunday [Jan 13].

Upon seeing Ali he took out a pistol and shot him dead.
