KOHAT: Adviser to the chief minister on education and MPA Ziaullah Bangash on Thursday inaugurated the Rs50 million Bachelor of Science Academic Block at the Government Postgraduate College here and promised the faculty upgradation.

He also announced that the government would set up playgrounds and information technology blocks.

The event was attended by PTI leader Malik Atif, councillor Karamat Ali Shah, and the college’s teachers and students.

The chief minister’s adviser said the government had formally decided to upgrade all male and female high schools in the province as higher secondary ones to reduce burden on colleges.

He also announced Rs2 million each from oil and gas royalty funds for the college’s beautification and development. Mr Bangash urged students to pay attention to their studies and respect teachers.

He said a plan had been made to train students at primary level as weak foundation meant weak building.

UNDERSTAFFED: The Kohat Water Supply and Sanitation Company is facing an acute shortage of staff and machinery adversely affecting its performance.

In its 2018 performance report issued here on Thursday, the WSSC said the tehsil municipal administration and Kohat Development Authority had to pay it funds for cleanliness and water supply but they didn’t issue a single penny to them in 2017-18 fiscal year.

It added for the two phases and 28 sectors of KDA, it had only 36 staff members, including 28 sweepers, while eight had been tasked with cleaning drains of such a large area.

The WSSC said it could fill vacancies due to ban on recruitment.
