ISLAMABAD: National Commission on Human Rights member Ch Mohammad Shafique on Monday said the commission was trying to make Islamabad a model city in terms of child protection and safety.

Speaking to participants at the concluding session of the four-day training programme for capital police, he said more training programmes would be organised in coming months in which the policemen would be given awareness of children rights.

He said during the training programme police officials were told that they could not arrest children. Moreover, they have to ensure that their rights are not violated.

Child rights experts including Sadia Hussain, Iqbal Detho, Valerie Khan and Tahir Khilji also spoke on the occasion.

Mr Shafique said the next series of trainings will take place after a month with special focus on officials like constables and head constables.
