LAYYAH: Federal Investigation Agency cyber crime circle on Wednesday arrested a mobile phone shop owner along with his accomplice and registered a case under various sections of Prevention of Electronics Crime Act (PECA).

On a tip-off, the Multan additional director (cyber crime) constituted a team comprising ASI Adil Ayub, constables Muhammad Bilal and Abdul Razzaq. The team raided the mobile phone shop on College Road and arrested Muhammad Waqas of Chak 139-b TDA and Tariq Aziz of Chah Hammedwala.

The raiding party recovered two cell phones from each suspect and other articles. Waqas told investigators that he had obtained call data record [of people] from policeman Asghar of Eidgah Shumali, Bhakkar, and subscribers details from the mobile franchise office.

Tariq Aziz told the FIA that he obtained call data record from Muzammil Husain of Rehmanabad, Layyah, currently working as ASI in Layyah police. The suspects would allegedly use [confidential] data for ulterior motives.

The Multan FIA crime circle has lodged a case under sections 7, 13, 14, 16 of PECA 2016 read with 419/420/468/471/109 of PPC.

The FIR states that the role of Asghar and ASI Muzammil will be determined during the course of the investigation.
