THE border military police and Baloch levies are the sole law-enforcement agency working in the tribal area of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur in Punjab. The area is about 10,000sqkm, having more than 300,000 people.
The tribal area covers the major part of both districts and borders on Balochistan, where the law and order situation is not up to the mark.
More than 70pc of jobs are still vacant as they were filled last time in the ’90s and there is no proper mechanism for training. They are running their department through the Punjab Border Military Police (BMP) Act 1904 and still have no amendments or any other act after more than 100 years. Chief Minister Usman Buzdar recently announced 533 seats in the BMP and Baloch levies on his own visit to Barthi.
It is an opportunity for unemployed educated people if the government advertises these posts through the proper channel or through the Public Service Commission and fixes a quota for tribal area candidates.
