Cultural show concludes in Haripur

HARIPUR: A two days cultural show ended here on Monday.

The event consisting of sports, cultural and literary activities was jointly organised by the district administration and district sports department.

On Dec 16, Haripur hosted the first professional title boxing competition in which 18 players from Karachi, Quetta and Afghanistan participated.

During the competitions of nine categories, the boxers exhibited their professional skills.

Event organiser Hasnain Amin said Nadir Baloch was the winner of the 70kg category, Afghanistan’s Qais Hazarti of 65kg category, and Saeed Ahmdi, also Afghan player, of 60kg category.

DG (sports) Junaid Khan announced Rs220 million for mini sports complex in Haripur and a boxing ring.

The other events, which took place on the ground of a Hazara phosphate factory, included kabadi, gatka fight, mungli lifting competition, dog race, rabbit race and bull race.

Commissioner of Hazara division Amjad Ali Khan, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away prize to the winning teams and individuals.

Later, a mushaira was held, where poets from different parts of Hazara division recited their Hindko poems.

COUNCILLOR ATTACKED: PML-N, Haripur district, general secretary and tehsil council member Sajjad Khan Bagra survived an attack in the native village of Bagra.

He told police here on Monday that four men attacked him in his hujra.

The councillor said the attackers fled after his relatives came to his help but one of them was later arrested by the police.

He said he had an old enmity with some villagers, who were behind the attack.

The police didn’t register FIR until night.

Sajjad Bagra had survived a similar attack two years ago.
