KARACHI, June 25: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that the government’s efforts are aimed at providing equal health facilities to every citizen in the province, adding that all required facilities are being made available throughout the province. He was speaking as chief guest at a ceremony held after he inaugurated a children ward and a modern x-ray unit at the Kutiyana Memon Hospital here on Friday night.

Sindh Industries Minister Mohammed Adil Siddiqui, MNA Dr Farooq Sattar, President of the Kutiyana Memon Association Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Ahmed Chenoy and others were among those present on the occasion.

The governor appreciated efforts by Dr Farooq Sattar who helped expand a small dispensary to a big hospital. He also lauded the Memon community for providing modern health and medical facilities in a densely populated area.

Dr Ibad expressed the hope that philanthropists and NGOs would extend their cooperation in providing similar facilities to the people of interior Sindh as well. He described provision of health facilities across the province as a ‘big challenge’ to the government, and said that beside paying attention to law and order, education, poverty alleviation and employment opportunities, the government was focusing on health sector on a priority basis.

The governor said there should be no discrimination on the basis of class and status with regard to health facilities as all human beings were equal. He pointed out that there was a wide gap between requirements and resources, but much was being done to cope with the situation in health and education sectors with the help of private sector and philanthropists.

He observed that there was much pressure on city hospitals while people had to spend a lot of time and money in reaching here from far off areas for availing treatment facilities. Therefore, he stressed, such facilities should be expanded to remote areas in order to provided relief to all people of Sindh.

Dr Ibad pointed out that the government was paying due attention to people’s requirement of treatment facilities for various diseases at district, town and tehsil levels.—APP
