KARACHI: One suspected robber was shot dead while a traffic police officer wounded in an encounter in Sharafi Goth on Thursday evening, police and hospital officials said.

They added that two suspects were looting a citizen, Mohammed Jehanzaib, near Murtaza Chowrangi in Landhi when traffic police sub-inspector Mohammed Nisar posted at the Landhi traffic section challenged them.

The suspects opened fire on him upon which the officer also returned fire and during the exchange of gunfire the officer was wounded while one suspect, identified as Mohammed Faiz, was arrested in a wounded condition.

The injured suspect was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

He sustained a single bullet wound on his head, added a JPMC official.

The wounded traffic officer was admitted to the Aga Khan University Hospital for treatment.
