KARACHI, June 23: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, has reinstated some 469 employees of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, whose services were terminated in 1998. About 288 of the said total of employees were reposted in the KWSB in Feb 2005, 138 were adjusted against vacancies in various departments of the city government while 16 were accommodated against vacancies in the KWSB and posted from June 22, 2005.

The remaining 23 employees would be given postings from July 1, 2005 on the recommendations of the EDO KWSB.

The employees were handed the orders of restoration of service by Mr Niamat at a ceremony held at his office on Thursday.

The Senior Presiding Officer, City Council, Muslim Pervez, and Chairman Ethics Committee Abdul Rasheed Baig were also present.

It may be recalled that services of about 1,107 employees in the KWSB were finished in 1998, who then challenged it in the high court.

The court ordered the reinstatement of 573 while the remaining 534 could not be reinstated. These employees then contacted the Chairman KWSB and City Nazim.—APP
