RAWALPINDI: Another head of the special investigation team probing into the murder of Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam Sami (JUI-S) leader Maulana Samiul Haq was transferred on Wednesday. This is the second transfer of a head of the team since the JUI-S chief was killed in a Safari Villa in Bahria Town on Nov 2.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Ghayas Gul was first posted as SSP Investigation and assigned to lead the six-member investigation team. Hardly had he started his investigation when he was transferred and directed to report to the federal capital territory police.

SSP Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi was then posted as SSP investigation Rawalpindi and assigned to lead the investigation into Maulana Samiul Haq’s murder.

SSP Niazi visited the crime scene for more than four hours soon after he assumed his charge and gathered information and evidence to initiate the investigation.

However, the provincial government Wednesday night issued a notification for the transfer of SSP Niazi and posted him as district police officer (DPO) Sialkot. No one has been posted as SSP investigation Rawalpindi so far..

Expressing his concerns regarding the investigation into the murder, Maulana Samiul Haq’s son, Maulana Hamidul Haq told Dawn the Rawalpindi police have not shared anything with the family in regards to the investigation.
