LAHORE: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) caused the first upset of the 30th National Women’s Hockey Championship when they inflicted a 2-0 win over fancied Railways 2-0 at the National Hockey Stadium here on Wednesday.

HEC went ahead in the sixth minute through a field goal by Sana Akhtar. Saba Riaz then doubled the lead in the second half to complete Railways’ misery.

Defending champions Wapda also maintained their perfect record by demolishing Punjab Whites 9-0. Hammra stole the limelight with five goals.

Sindh Whites sealed a 2-0 success against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through goals from Iqra Shakeel and Mashaal.

Punjab Colours, the strongest among the provincial sides, rained goals upon the hapless Balochistan to complete a 18-0 rout. Arzo netted four goals.
