ST JOHN’S (Antigua), June 22: Brian Lara, holder of highest scores in both Test and first-class cricket has sought, and been given, permission by West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to miss One-day Internationals on upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
The 36-year-old left-hander, said he had already informed WICB of his decision.
Lara, the former Test captain, returned after his layoff in Pakistan one-day series to score 130 in first of two Tests and 153 in second to follow his 196 and 176 in successive Tests in preceding series against South Africa.
West Indies are scheduled for two Tests, in Colombo (July 14-18), and Kandy (July 22-26) and a triangular one-day tournament in which they play Sri Lanka and India twice leading to the final in Colombo on Aug 14.
