PESHAWAR: An estranged lover shot dead a woman dancer in the limits of Kotwali police station here late on Friday, police said.

Police said the incident took place in Feelbanan Street area of the old city, when a suspect identified as Musaddiq entered a house and shot dead a woman, a local dancer.

Jan Alam, slain dancer’s brother, approached the Kotwali police stating that he took his sister to Mohammad Zeeshan’s residence in the Feelbanan Street area. He stated that while he was waiting outside the house, Musaddiq entered the house and after a brief commotion, he heard shots being fired inside.

He said the woman was injured in the firing and succumbed to her injuries when he was taking her to hospital.

Alam said the accused and the slain were friends; however, currently their relations were strained even though a jirga had resolved their differences. The accused, said to be a resident of Charsadda, managed to escape the area.

The police registered an FIR and were searching for the accused.
