KHAR: Security forces claimed to have killed a militant ‘commander’ after repulsing a heavy attack on a border post of Bajaur tribal district, officials told Dawn on Wednesday.

They said a group of militants attacked the security post in Ghakhi locality of Mamond late on Tuesday evening from the Afghanistan side, but security personnel deployed in the area effectively repulsed it.

The officials said that no loss of life or property was reported in the assault.

They said that a senior militant commander, Altaf alias Rockety, was killed during the attack.

Bajaur has witnessed countless cross-border attacks from different militant groups in the past, but the recent assault took place after a gap of several months.

Fencing of hundreds of kilometres of border areas along with Afghanistan’s Kunar province has been under way in Bajaur to secure Pakistan from cross-border terror attacks.
