LAHORE: Former chief executive officer of the Quaid-i-Azam Solar Power Plant Najam Shah has moved the Lahore High Court for a pre-arrest interim bail, apprehending he might be arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Mr Shah, who also served as Punjab health department secretary, pleaded in his petition that the NAB initiated an inquiry into alleged corruption in the solar power plant and also issued him summons.

He contended the bureau had been arresting bureaucrats and other persons during their appearance before the investigation teams.

Therefore, he asked the court to grant him pre-arrest interim bail, saying he was ready to cooperate with the NAB in the investigation but might get arrested.

A two-judge bench would hear the petition of Mr Shah on Monday.

RELEASED: Punjab University’s former vice chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, former registrar Prof Dr Liaqat Ali and two additional registrars -- Prof Dr Aurangzaib Alamgir and Prof Dr Kamran Abid -- were released from district jail on Saturday.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested them in a case of alleged illegal appointments made in the university. However, the Lahore High Court had on Nov 7 granted bail to them.

On his release, Mr Kamran was received by his wife Dr Shazia Qureshi and his students outside the jail.

Talking to the media, Mr Kamran said the NAB had arrested him without any evidence. He added the NAB law needed to be amended.

The former VC said he witnessed many innocent people languishing in jail due to “unfairness” of the NAB.
