KARACHI, June 18: The Karachi Building Control Authority has issued notices to the owners and residents of buildings declared dangerous and dilapidated in various parts of the city. A KBCA spokesman said that warnings in this regard had repeatedly been issued through newspapers; however, people continued to reside in these buildings, numbering around 200, unmindful of any consequences.

Resultantly, the walls between two such buildings – the Raees and Maqbool buildings – in Bohra Pir collapsed injuring two persons.

The KBCA spokesman said that MPA Abdul Aziz Bantwa and the KBCA officials had also reached the scene and got the other dilapidated portions of the two buildings demolished as well.

He pointed out that residents of most dilapidated buildings in the old city areas had obtained flats on ‘pagri’, and today the situation was that prices of these buildings had gone considerably high. The KBCA has once again warned the owners and residents to vacate such buildings, which could cause any tragedy especially during the coming monsoon rains.—APP
