MANSEHRA: Legal fraternity will challenge suspension of work on Mansehra airport project in the Peshawar High Court’s Abbottabad circuit bench.

“This is a highly important project launched by the previous government which had released an amount of Rs280 million for land acquisition and if this project is scraped, it will affect not only people of Hazara but also of northern parts of the country,” Arif Tanoli Advocate, a member of the district bar association, told reporters here on Sunday.

He said he was going to file a writ petition in high court seeking restart of work on the airport project in Tanawal area of Mansehra district.

“This is a project which will create thousands of employment opportunities and bring development to Hazara division,” said Mr Tanoli.

He said following completion of the projects launched under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in Hazara such an airport was highly important to promote faster communication links between northern parts with rest of the country and abroad.

FOUND DEAD: Bodies of a young man and a woman were found near the police lines here on Saturday night, Naseem Khan, SHO Saddar police, told reporters on Sunday.

He said a gun was also placed near the bodies and that both the victims received a bullet each.

Mr Khan said the bodies were handed over to families on completion of medico-legal formalities at the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that both were engaged to each other but how they were killed is not known yet,” he said. He said the man was identified as Mohammad Faisal of Tali Syedain.

Also, police arrested Mohammad Feroz, stated to be the driver of a dumper truck which killed four members of a family the other day.

ANTI- MEASLES DRIVE: The health department has divided Mansehra into 12 zones for the ongoing anti-measles drive to vaccinate over 256,000 children.

“The waterborne diseases are common in our society owing to use of unhygienic water and polluted environment, which directly affects our children and the measles vaccination drive will keep them away from such ailments in future,” Dr Shahzad Ali Khan, the district health officer, told a meeting on Sunday. Chaired by assistant commissioner Mohaiz Sanaullah the meeting reviewed the progress on anti-measles drive.
