KARACHI, June 17: Police on Friday released seven suspects, who were arrested for arson at the KFC restaurant in Gulshan-i-Iqbal in the aftermath of a suicide bombing at Madinatul Ilm on May 30.

DIG Investigation Manzoor Mughal told Dawn that the suspects were arrested on suspicion of being involved in setting fire to the restaurant, but they were released for lack of evidence.

He said that no evidence could be collected against them neither any witness identified any of the suspects. The suspects were in police remand for the last 12 days.

A mob had set the KFC restaurant in fire shortly after five people including two militants were killed in a suicide attack on a nearby mosque.

Police would start a fresh investigation in the case to apprehend the suspects responsible for the arson, the DIG Investigation added.
