KOHAT: A measles vaccination team was attacked when a man opened fire on them in Nandarka area of Shakardarra town here on Wednesday.

The police said that the team was vaccinating children in Faqeerabad Road area. When it knocked at the door of the house of one Hussain Badshah, a man came out with a Kalashnikov and started firing on them.

However, because of quick response by the police escorting the team the attack was repulsed and the accused fled. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

SHO Mohammad Vaqas, who was informed about the incident, cordoned off the whole area and held the accused, Fazalur Rehman of Bori Saghri area, who was fleeing on a motorcycle. A Kalashnikov, and cartridges and were also seized from him. The motorcycle he was driving had no registration number.

The Shakardarra police registered case against him on the complaint of the monitoring officer of the vaccination team, Samiullah, and started investigations.

Meanwhile, the police on a tip-off arrested a proclaimed offender identified as Hussain Badshah wanted in a murder case since 2013.
