One of the best habits is to save money and, as kids, you should develop this habit soon to have your personal saving for later use. In today’s craft, I’ll show you how to make a cute little unicorn money bank from a disposable cup.

If you don’t know what unicorn is, let me tell you, a unicorn is a mythical horse with a single large pointed horn on its forehead. So let’s start.

Things you need

  1. A disposable cup (paper or plastic)

  2. White acrylic colour

  3. Painting brush

  4. Pencil

  5. Paper cutter

  6. 4x4 inches of hard paper piece

  7. Felt or foam pieces (white and pink)

  8. Black marker

  9. White glue

  10. Five or seven colours of yarn threads

Directions

  1. Place the cup upside down on the hard paper (to make the lid) and draw the outline, then cut it out, pictures 2 and 3.

  2. Paint the cup and the lid with white acrylic colour, picture 4.

  3. Make a two-inches wide slit just below the centre of the lid (to put money inside), picture 5.

  4. Draw two slightly curved triangles not more than one inch on the white felt sheet, cut them out, these are the ears of the unicorn, picture 6.

  5. Repeat step 4 on pink felt sheet, but this time the ears will be slightly smaller than the white ones as they will be pasted over the white, as in picture 7.

  6. To make the horn, draw a semicircle on the white felt, cut it out and make a cone, pictures 8, 9 and 10.

  7. Paste the horn and ears on the cup’s lid accordingly, picture 11.

  8. Flatten the colourful strings of the yarn. Leave two inches from the top and tie a knot, picture 12.

  9. Dab glue where you tied a knot and paste it on the back of the horn, picture 13 (put it aside).

  10. To make the eyes, draw semicircles with a black marker on the cup and cut ‘two’ circles (one-inch) from the pink felt and paste them as the cheeks, as shown in picture 14.

  11. Lastly, put glue on the brim of the cup and paste the lid on to it.
