KARAK: The district officer agriculture has warned the unauthorised seed dealers to stop selling substandard wheat seed or face action. He resolved to pay surprise visits to such dealers in the market.
Sources in agriculture department told reporters on Saturday that the district office agriculture had received a number of complaints from farmers across the district that some unauthorised dealers were selling wheat seed to them on the pretext that it was recommended by the agriculture department, but actually it was not.
The agriculture officer, they said had devised a plan to make surprise raids on the seed dealers to examine the seed. They said the seed being sold by such dealers was not recommended by the agriculture department.
The sources claimed that the local agriculture office had already asked the dealers to return the wheat seed to the suppliers, warning them of consequences if they sold the same to the farmers.
STUDENT KILLED ON ROAD: A student of 5th grade was killed when a passenger van hit him in Shahidan area on Saturday. Police said a speeding van going towards DI Khan hit a 5th class student of a local school identified as Shamsher Ahmad of the same area, seriously injuring him. He died while being taken to hospital. The local people claimed that the incident occurred due to over-speeding of the van and demanded construction of a flyover on the Indus Highway in the populated area as many accidents had occurred at the same place in the past.
