ISLAMABAD: Wapda strikers Mehru Khan and Madiha were in scintillating form as they overcame Pakistan Army 54-45 to defend their National Women Basketball Championship title on Thursday.

Mehru, declared the best player of the championship, scored 24 points with Madiha adding another 10 in a well-contested final here at the Pakistan Sports Complex.

Wapda seized an early lead but Army hit back and reduced their lead to just one point (21-20) in the second quarter. But Wapda pulled into another gear and emerged winners despite Ayesha scoring 21 points and Zobia adding another 12 for Army.

Earlier, Lahore Division defeated Karachi Division to secure third position in the tournament which featured 10 teams.
