PkMAP leader shot dead by unidentified persons in Swabi

SWABI: The former district president of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Mohammad Farooq Khan, was shot dead by unidentified persons outside his house here on Monday.

The incident occurred in the limits of Zaida police station. DSP Sajid Hussain, when contacted, said that it did not seem an incident of terrorism. He said that situation would be cleared soon.

The residents of the area said that Farooq Khan, known as Farooq Lala, was standing in front of his house in Zaida village when some unidentified persons attacked him. He was killed on the spot and the assailants managed to escape.

Farooq Lala had worked as district president and district general secretary of PkMAP at different times. He contributed immensely to strengthening the party in the district. He enjoyed a respectable position in the political circle of the district.

Saud Khan, the son of the deceased, registered FIR against unidentified people in Zaid police station.

Meanwhile, five more persons including a child were killed in different incidents in the district.

Police said that Mir Zaman, alias Janan Jan, a driver from Sher Baz Banda, dropped students at a local educational institution and was coming back when he was attacked by unidentified persons near Gulu Dheri.

He was seriously injured but he did not stop and headed his vehicle towards the district headquarters hospital. Due to his serious condition, his pickup truck collided with various vehicles but the people remained unhurt.

However, he succumbed to his injures before reaching the hospital.

In Maneri Bala village, Samad Khan, a five-year-old boy, died after consuming acid.

In Doubian village, Ismail Shah Bacha was electrocuted while 17-year-old Kafeel Khan, who worked in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate, committed suicide. Ziaullah, an Afghan national, who was injured in a road accident few days ago, succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Also in the day, the members of Swabi Tehsil Council boycotted the budget session, alleging that nazim violated rules in awarding contracts.

Meanwhile, police arrested a resident of Mohmand Agency for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old boy. Police also arrested a resident of Karnal Sher Kallay for his involvement in a similar incident.
