THERE have been reports that the economy is at an all-time low and we might have to ask the International Monetary Fund for another bailout.
In such a situation, a two-day weekend sounds like a luxury for a third world county in debt.
We need to work six days a week like we used to a few decades ago. Our economy was much better then and the US dollar was also less than half its current value.
The two-day weekend was primarily introduced to save fuel and electricity which we have failed to do. Furthermore, I would like to add that there are too many holidays in a year. We need to cut down on market and business closures.

The entire world works 40 hours a week wiges 8 hours A-day for 5 days or 10 hours A-day for 4 days or 6 and a 1/2 hours for 6 days. Having 2 days week and is a necessary to relax recuperate from the previous week's wigorous work And get ready with entusiasmo for the coming week. Productivity comes from planning not working like a horse only.

When then world is moving towards 4-day work weeks in some places and 20 to 30 hours' work weeks in others, why should Pakistan move backwards and implement 6-day / 48-hour work weeks? Such regressive thinking is part of the reason why Pakistan continues to lag in many indicators, including education. That's where the govt's focus should be directed, rather than futile exercises.
