KARACHI: Former Test off-spinner Tauseef Ahmed’s son Waleed Ahmed grabbed a career-best six for 28 in just his third List-A appearance as Karachi Whites brushed aside ZTBL in their third-round fixture of the Quaid-i-Azam One-day Cup here on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Waleed, who like his famous dad, who is a national selector, is an exponent of off-spin, was virtually unplayable in the Pool ‘B’ match at the National Stadium by triggering a sensational ZTBL collapse with the last seven wickets crashing for just 37 runs as the departmental outfit were dismissed for 200 in 47.1 overs.

Karachi Whites were home at the start of the 48th over thanks to the unbroken partnership of 58 between captain Anwar Ali (34) and Faraz Ahmed Khan (31).

Khushdil Shah continued his sensational limier-overs form as the young left-hander scored a third successive century (100 off 107 balls, nine fours and two sixes) but his heroics were insufficient to prevent Fata going down by a solitary wicket to KRL in a high-scoring thrilling Pool ‘A’ clash at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium in Abbottabad.

After Fata posted 334-8, KRL sealed victory with three balls to spare with Pakistan prospect Saif Badar striking a 29-ball 58 not out.

In a huge upset, Islamabad rode on ‘guest player’ Fahad Iqbal’s undefeated 108 (122 balls, six fours and three sixes) to surprise Mohammad Hafeez-led SNGPL by six wickets at the Diamond Club Ground in the federal capital. Faizan Riaz (84 off 78, eight fours and three sixes) helped Fahad — younger brother of ex-Test batsman Faisal Iqbal — put on 154 for the fourth while the regional team chased down 295 in 49.3 overs.

In a curtailed match, which was cut short by three overs to 47 per side, HBL edged past Lahore Whites by 17 runs on D/L Method. Agha Salman stood out for the bankers with a brilliant 80-ball 113 (12 fours and two sixes) in a team total of 317-9.

Pakistan discard Nauman Anwar kept the Lahore side in the hunt with a maiden one-day ton as the 22-year-old opener banged 152 off 111 deliveries with the aid of 15 fours and eight sixes, but it was still not enough to see them over the line.

Former Pakistan Under-19 skipper Saud Shakeel hit 100 (110 balls, 11 boundaries) as he marshalled PTV to a clinical eight-wicket rout of Rawalpindi at the Pindi Cricket Stadium as the young left-hander shared an unbroken stand of 97 with ex-Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, who struck four sixes and four fours in a 52-ball 58.

In other matches, NBP beat Peshawar by 44 runs, Wapda tamed Lahore Blues by 62 runs and SSGCL trounced Multan by 132 runs.
