HYDERABAD: Jamat-i-Islami secretary general Liaquat Baloch has welcomed the setting up of a parliamentary commission on alleged rigging in the July 25 general election. He said its chairman must come from the opposition.

He was speaking to reporters before addressing a gathering at Masjid-i-Quba in Hirabad on Thursday.

Despite serious reservations about the election results, the JI accepted them in the interest of democracy, he said but it was a common demand of all opposition parties to address the reservations through a parliamentary commission. The senate chairman must be consulted in this respect, he added.

About the recent release of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law retired Capt Safdar on bail after the Islamabad High Court suspended their jail term, Liaquat Baloch said that verdicts of the judiciary must be respected.
