KARACHI: Reigning champions Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) amply showed their prowess with a clinical rout of Islamabad by a massive innings and 307-run thrashing of Islamabad in their third-round tie of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship in Islamabad on Tuesday.

In a notable result, Multan turned the tables on Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) by 46 runs in Multan while Wapda whipped Lahore Blues by innings and 16 runs in Lahore.

After declaring their innings at the overnight total of 591-4, SNGPL needed 55.2 overs to bowl Islamabad out for 176 at the Diamond Club Ground. Hafeez’s decision to apply the closure deprived Test right-hander Asad Shafiq the opportunity of notching his highest first-class of 223 as he was left stranded on an unbeaten 221.

Khalid Usman was Wapda’s match-winner with a rich haul of 11 wickets. The slow left-armer first up doubled his Monday’s tally of three at the LCCA Ground to finish with six for 47 in 19.1 overs as Lahore Blues were all out for 149.

Forced to follow on, the regional side folded up for 161 with Khalid picking up 5-57, giving him a total of 11-104 for the game.

SSGCL capitulated rather surprisingly for just 107 while chasing just 154 at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Paceman Sajjad Hussain inspired Multan to their first win in the championship with 5-25 with left-arm spinner Ali Usman taking 4-23 (match bag of 8-65).

Wapda, KRL, Multan also win in three days

Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) were the day’s other winners with a seven-wicket defeat of Fata at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium in Abbottabad. The star performer was paceman Ali Shafiq who followed up his career-best 8-70 with 4-50, giving him mach figures of 12-120.

On Monday Peshawar completed their successive success in the championship when they overpowered NBP at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.
