Shabbir Shaheed XI lift Defence Day basketball trophy

KARACHI: Major Shabbir Shaheed XI edged past Major Mohammad Tufail Shaheed 58-54 in a thrilling final, that went into extra time, to win the SSB Defence Day basketball tournament title here at the Arambagh courts.

Brillliant Abdullah led the attack for Shabbir XI by scoring 20 points while Raja Jahanzeb (11 points) and Chen way (10 points) also played well.

For Tufail Shaheed XI, the main scorers were Talha Amjad and Ali Chanzeb who both scored 13 points each while Agha Ibrahim scored 11 points.

Chief guest on the occasion was Chairman Advance Seed Corporation Ather Ali Khanzada who distributed the prizes and trophies among the winners and the runner-up teams.

In the juniors contest, the title was won by Flying Office Marium Mukhtar Shaheed XI who defeated Hawaladar Lalakjan Shaheed XI 35-30 in a nail-biting final.

Chen Way was named player of the tournament in the seniors competitions while Abdullah was named player of the final. In the juniors category, Hasan Ali was named player of the tournament and Faizan Yousuf as the player of the final.

Secretary Sports, govt of Sindh Haroon Ahmed and President KBBA Ghulam Mohammad were also present on the occasion and thanked the organisers and SSB for supporting the event.
