KARACHI: Major Tufail Shaheed XI beat Major Sawar Hussain Shaheed XI 52-36 to qualify for the semifinals of the Defence Day Basketball Tournament here at the Arambagh courts on Tuesday.

Talha Amjad (18 points), Ali Chanzeb (12 points) and Agha Ibrahim (7 points) were the main scorers for the winners.

For the losing team, Saad Khan (13 points), Mark (13 points) displayed superb game but could not get their team into the semis.

In another match of the day, Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed XI beat Major Mohammad Akram Shaheed XI by 60-41. Cheen (24 points), Hamza Khan (12 points) and Abdullah (8 points) were the leading scorers for the winners.

For the losing team, Shameer Zaheer (14 points), Syed Bakhtiar Ahmed (8 points) and Mohaammad Asim (6 points) were the main scorers.

Meanwhile, the Karahi basketball Association announced the names of 20 players for the National Girls Basketball Championship. The players have been asked to report to manager Zahid Malik at Arambagh courts on Friday at 5:00pm.

The players are Rija Saeed, Hurea Sajjad, Nazia Hassan, Aysha Ijlal, Mahira Hasan, Ameena Raza, Laiba Tabrez, Mahrukh Tai, Maria Hasan, Roseta Turner, Ashbala Hasan, Cameron Turner, Palwasha Qureshi, Zuhra Bandookwala, Harseem binte Fazal, Alia Hameed, Andaleeb Zuhra, Rafia Khalid and Shonzeh Hussain.
