(EDITORIAL) In looking for scapegoats to bear the responsibility of the present political deadlock in India, it is customary with Hindu leaders to declare that Mr. Jinnah and the Muslim League constitute the stumbling block and that in consequence the country is suffering from frustration. In his latest statement, we are disappointed to see Mr. C. Rajagopalachari repeating the hackneyed claptrap about Mr. Jinnah standing in the way refusing to be helpful while conditions favour a happy solution. The argument is totally unwarranted and it is the outcome of reluctance to face responsibility and refusal to be frustrated by the primary cause of trouble that calls for removal… Mr. Rajagopalachari in this context misrepresents Mr. Jinnah to save Hindu leadership the unpalatable but healthy course of appealing to the Mahatma to retrace his steps and upon some such plea as the importance of the food crisis drop the weapon he wielded and rise to the occasion.

The argument that Mr. Gandhi has been brutally shut out of all opportunities of judging the course of events in the country after “the open rebellion” is wrong because he receives an ample supply of newspapers … Mr Jinnah was always ready, in spite of scurrilous allegations to the contrary, to discuss matters with Mr. Gandhi or any other responsible Hindu leader … — Dawn Delhi
