Government replaces IGPs of Sindh, Punjab and KP

The federal government on Friday issued notifications for the appointments of Inspector Generals of Police (IGP) in the Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces.

Dr Kaleem Imam, a grade-21 officer serving as the Punjab IGP, has now been appointed as the IGP for Sindh. Amjad Javed Saleemi, the previous Sindh IGP, has been transferred and directed to report to the Establishment Division with immediate effect.

The newly appointed Sindh IGP joined the civil services on November 1, 1988 and belongs to the 16th Common. He was previously a grade 21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan. His domicile of origin is urban Sindh. He will retire on April 24, 2022.

Muhammad Tahir, a grade-21 officer appointed previously as the KP IGP, will now be serving as the Punjab IGP.

He joined the civil services on November 1,1988 and belongs to the 16th Common. His domicile is Rawalpindi. He will retire on November 21, 2020.

Salahuddin Khan, a grade-21 officer, presently posted as Officer on Special Duty (PSD) in the Establishment Division has been transferred and posted as the IGP for KP.

All of the three newly appointed officers were posted to their previous positions on June 13 this year by the caretaker government.

They have all been appointed in their own pay and scale to their new positions with immediate effect, according to the notices issued.

The liquor investigation case of Sharjeel Memon twisted by police , hence such a step was over due. Hope new IGP, will take all suitable measures to police implementation of law. The impression created by certain political party that their legal or illegal orders can prevail be brushed aside, by IGP, the Governor of Sindh, and the other Federal Arms monitoring Sindh.

In the U.S. the local government mayor chooses the Chief of Police. In Pakistan, the fact that the Federal Government appoints police shows how badly structured Pakistan's governance is. These decisions should be made at the local and provincial level.

Excellent. Now we will have new Police IGs on merit and not political reasons. KP Police is the best in the country as its on strictly merit, other IGs must follow the example and serve the people, not their political masters. After all they are paid by the tax payers.

Hope this move will benefit the law and order situation in the whole country and the standard of operations and morale of Police will also be improved. It will be more better if all these Officers are also supported by Federal Government in their meritorious decisions for the betterment of LEAs structure.

A very wise and commendable decision of the federal govt. Having personally know this outstanding, experienced officer of police cadre with impeccable character and standing, I would say with confidence that he would bring noticeable improvements in the police department of Sind Government. I whole heartedly wish him success in new assignment and am sure that he will, like always, prove to be an asset and a beacon of light for others to follow.

Amazing that the IGP Sindh is appointed by the Federal Government. Should not the IGP Sindh be appointed by the Sindh Government, so that he is answerable to the elected officials of the Sindh and they on their part are answerable to the voters of Sindh. The Sindh government should work for the amendment of such laws, as such laws go against the people of Sindh.
