KARACHI: Aviation Division Secretary Saqib Aziz was given the additional charge of the chief executive officer of the Pakistan International Airlines on Thursday.

A notification issued by the federal government on Wednesday says “the federal government has been pleased to approve the grant of additional charge of CEO of PIA to Saqib Aziz (BS 22), secretary aviation with immediate effect and until further orders”.

Mr Aziz already holds the charge of chairman of PIA. Responding to Dawn queries, PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar said Mr Aziz had a long experience of administration and held various senior government positions.

He, however, did not respond to a question whether the new CEO had any aviation-related experience as had been emphasised by the Supreme Court a few days ago while sacking the then PIA CEO Musharraf Rasool Cyan, who had no such experience.
