GUJRANWALA: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested on Friday two clerks of the Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) and the Buildings Department, according to ACE Director Fareed Ahmad.

Muhammad Aslam Malik, of Sheikhupura Road, approached the ACE that he was a contractor and filed his documents for the pre-qualification registration of his company with Wasa where clerk Awais demanded Rs20,000 to enlist the company.

Awais was later caught receiving the cash. In another incident, Muhammad Qasim sought a no-objection certificate from the Buildings Department where clerk Bachan Lal demanded bribe. Lal was also arrested while receiving bribe.

Also, the district police on Friday arrested a five-member gang, seized several stolen motorcycles, four pistols, gold ornaments and cash from them.

City Police Officer Dr Moeen Masood said the Garjakh police arrested Atif (ringleader), Arshad, Saif, Rashid, Qaiser and Mushtaq. The gang was wanted by police in several cases.
