ISLAMABAD: Senior Superintendent of Police (operation) Najeebur Rehman Bugvi was on Friday transferred to Punjab. However, so far no replacement has been made and neither any officer was given the acting or additional charge.

A notification stated that the SSP serving under the Interior Division was transferred and his services were placed at the disposal of the government of Punjab.

More transfers of senior officers of the capital police and administration are expected by the new government.

Sources said the issue related to the transfer/posting of senior police and administration officers, including the inspectors general, chief commissioners and deputy commissioners across the country would be discussed at a cabinet meeting next week.

Mr Bugvi was posted out of the capital all alone on Friday. But it is yet to be established if it was a routine transfer.

Officials at the IGP office said: “We are trying to get the transfer notification cancelled and in this regard have approached the interior ministry with a written request.”

Reservations, if any, regarding the officer will also be addressed to keep him in the capital, the officials added.

Mr Bugvi was transferred to the capital from the National Highways and Motorway Police in January this year.

He was posted to the capital after the transfer of Sajid Kiani to the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Since his posting to the capital, Mr Bugvi mostly remained engaged in election-related duties. A police officer said Mr Bugvi was one of the few officers who tried to take action against the land mafia and officials who were allegedly hand in gloves with the land grabbers.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Bugvi said the working requirements and dynamics in the capital were different from other parts of the country.

“Every day we have to make a new strategy keeping in view the priorities, circumstances and requirements,” he added.

Besides the official business, the capital police are engaged in law and order duties, security and crime reduction and prevention, he said, adding despite their engagements and nature of jobs the resources available for the police were very meagre.

About land grabbing, the SSP said the issue cannot be addressed without changing the classification of land.

The agriculture land in the capital is being used for residential projects by housing societies. Besides, there is a dire need to computerise the revenue records, he added.
