LAKKI MARWAT: The Lakki Marwat police will establish additional checkposts in different parts of the district as part of the Eidul Azha security plan, said an official on Sunday.

He said the decision to set up checkposts and deploy policemen at busy public places was taken at a meeting chaired by district police officer Asif Gohar.

“The meeting also finalised foolproof security plan for Eid and tasked Lakki Marwat and Naurang circles’ police officers with supervising security arrangements in their respective areas of jurisdiction,” maintained the official.

He said besides provision of security to Eid congregations, cops would also keep an eye on suspects in markets and public places.

The district police chief has cancelled leaves of all police personnel directing them to perform assigned duty during Eid days, he said, adding arrangements had also been made to avoid rush of vehicles on roads in Lakki, Naurang and other towns of the district.

Those involved in celebratory firing will face stern legal action, he warned and urged the people to cooperate with police so as to maintain peace and harmony on Eid.

PROTEST: Local residents held a demonstration in Lakki city on Sunday against the competition of sacrilegious sketches in Netherlands.

Hundreds of protesters reached Qazi Ishfaq Chowk and closed the busy Bannu-Mianwali road, which connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab. They carried banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the organisers of the event.

The placards held by protesters also carried messages expressing love for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Local leaders and activists of political, religious and social organisations were also in attendance.

On the occasion, ex-MPA Najibullah, a youth leader Faisal Kamal, Mufti Mohammad Khan Haqqani of JUI-N and others condemned the Dutch government for allowing blasphemous cartoon contest in the country.

They said the contest had been organised to hurt the feelings of Muslims across the world.

They asked the Muslims to boycott the products of Netherlands. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
