RAWALPINDI: District Education Authority has launched an investigation into alleged illegal withdrawal of Rs400,000 from the accounts of the education department.

A senior official of the education authority told Dawn that the district officer, cashier and junior clerk had been grilled and a report would soon be prepared.

He said that as per law, the officials had to give cogent reason for drawing money from the department’s account but in this particular case no reason was given.

He said the issue was brought into the notice of the education authority and the team had been formed to conduct audit of the department’s accounts.

When contacted, the education authority’s Chief Executive Officer Riaz Ahmed confirmed that an audit of the accounts had been underway and a report would soon be presented.
