SAHIWAL: A week has passed since the capture of eight Chinese engineers possessing heavy weapons at the entrance to Qadirabad coal-fired power plant on Aug 11, but there is no information on their whereabouts as yet.

At that time, sources in the district police office confirmed that the engineers were taken to an undisclosed location for investigation. They were said to be employees of the power plant and residing in a posh locality of the city.

Heavy security had been provided to the engineers and they even moved from their residence to the plant escorted by police and Elite Force personnel.

The regional police officer’s spokesman told this correspondent that the Chinese engineers were still under custody for investigation. This was also confirmed by the plant’s head, Mr Chen.

The spokesman also revealed that the law enforcement agencies were investigating the engineers and were coordinating with the interior ministry in this regard.

He said the names of arrested engineers would be shared once they were revealed by security agencies.

Dawn learnt from sources that no criminal case has been registered at any police stations in the district.
