SIALKOT: The Sialkot International Airport was closed for two days for repair of its runways on Friday.

Abdul Shakoor Mirza, public relations manager of the airport, told newsmen all the domestic and international flights had been rescheduled for the convenience of the passengers.

Rs17.5m looted: A gang of six dacoits looted gold jewellery, electronics, cash in national and foreign currencies and other valuables all worth Rs17.5 million in two major robberies in Dhol Bajwa village of Phalora, Pasrur tehsil, late on Thursday.

The masked suspects entered the house of landlord Barkat Ali through the roof and took the family hostage at gunpoint.

They looted Rs5m worth of cash, 30-tola gold jewellery, electronics and a licenced rifle.

They then moved to the house next door belonging to Ali’s brother-in-law, Amjad Ali. They robbed the family of Rs3m in cash, 200,000 Saudi riyal, 20-told gold jewellery, electronics and other valuables.

The families told police that the suspects looted valuables worth Rs17.5m and fled after locking them in separate rooms of their respective houses. Phalora police are investigating the incidents.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified young woman was found in the Upper Chenab Canal (UCC) near Sambrial.

Locals spotted the body and informed the police. The body had so many torture marks on her face that it was beyond recognition.

The Sambrial police said the victim looked 30 years old. They said it was not yet confirmed whether the woman was raped or not before the murder.

The police shifted the body to hospital for autopsy.

KILLED: A man was killed at village Kotli Malhiyaan-Satrah, Daska, late at night.

Munawar Hussain (56), a landlord, was sleeping on the rooftop of his house when an unidentified suspect shot him dead.

Satrah police shifted body to the Daska Civil Hospital for autopsy and registered a case.
