THE new managing director of the Fauji Foundation is making some wonderful changes to our already plagued education system. With reference to the report ‘Teachers protest proposal to cut salaries’ (July 31), he has slashed teacher salaries by 70 per cent.
In a country where the quality of education continues to deteriorate and schools in all major cities rely on the education system of another country, in another continent, to fulfill their needs, the Fauji Foundation which, in fact, should play an important role in contributing to the development of this country, is making quite sure that the country’s future returns to the dark ages.
Quality education comes at a price, but the benefits are substantial. These children are the teachers of the future. How about slashing salaries of staff in other Fauji institutions – the ridiculously loss making Fauji Foods and Fauji Fertiliser?
Is it true that the children of the Fauji board comfortably pursue top quality education in private schools or abroad where teachers are respected and honoured with a comparable remuneration?
With the quality of education and administration already deteriorating in the Pak-Turk schools (now run by a Pakistani board) and the Fauji Foundation schools following suit, in a country where the new generation hesitates to take examinations in the national language, it will take a lot more than one man’s dream to evolve to a Naya Pakistan.
