KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has suspended party membership of its newly-elected MPA Dr Syed Imran Ali Shah for thrashing a citizen on a main road, a PTI spokesperson said on Thursday.

The video of the incident had gone viral over social media platforms a couple of days ago “Dr Shah’s membership has been put under suspension for a month,” he said. “During that period [one month] the disciplinary committee of the party comprising senior PTI members would probe into the matter and seek explanation from Dr Shah. His future would be decided over the report of the committee which has been tasked to complete the job within a month.”

Just a day after taking oath as member of the Sindh Assembly, Dr Shah came under the spotlight when his video went viral over social media platforms showing him intercepting a car on main Stadium Road and beating its driver, surrounded by his armed guards in front of dozens of people. Although he apologised to the man he had physically assaulted the same evening in a visit to his home, the party decided to probe his action while suspending his membership.
