CHARSADDA: Five persons were killed and three others received injuries when members of two close families resorted to firing during a jirga in Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district on Tuesday.

Four of the deceased belonged to a family. The incident took place in Eshara Korona area.

It is to mention here that a motorcycle had hit a minor girl on Monday that caused slight injuries to her. And to reconcile the families of cousins, a jirga was called on Tuesday.

Witnesses said that the relatives exchanged hot words during the course of the jirga, which caused members of one family to open fire.

Five people died on the spot while three others received injuries. The wounded persons were shifted to hospital. A case was registered against the accused at the local police station.

A police official said that Fasihullah, Taj Mir, Zamarud, Manzoor, Jehanzeb and Arshad had been nominated in the FIR. He, however, said no one was arrested.

It is worth mentioning here that six members of a family were gunned down on a minor dispute in Charsadda two days ago.
