KARACHI: The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced on Sunday that the Zilhaj moon had been sighted and Eidul Azha would be celebrated on Aug 22 (Wednesday).

Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, who heads the committee, made the announcement after a meeting at the Meteorological Department’s office in Karachi.

In Riyadh, the Saudi government announced that since the Zilhaj moon had been sighted on Saturday, Waqoof-i-Arafat, the most important Haj rite, would be observed on Aug 20.

Eid will be celebrated in Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan on Aug 21.

The Saudi government declared an 11-day holiday, which will begin on Aug 16.

India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei will celebrate Eidul Azha on Aug 22.
