SIALKOT: Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tahir Wattoo has expressed grave concern over a lack of maintenance of greenbelts and other facilities supposed to be maintained by the Sialkot Municipal Corporation and the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA).

Presiding over a meeting, the DC directed the officials to draw up a plan to revive the greenbelts and ensure beautification of the Sialkot city in general. He warned that stern action would be taken against the negligent officials.

The greenbelts in the city, especially those on the main inter-city roads, are a picture of neglect and stray animals destroy the greenery due to alleged slackness of the Sialkot Municipal Corporation. Almost all the ornamental and other plants and saplings in the greenbelts have been ruined by the cattle.

A few years ago, the Sialkot Municipal Corporation had established the greenbelts along the main roads including Church Road, Kashmir Road, Defence Road, Khawaja Safdar Road, Paris Road, Khadim Ali Road, Circular Road, Sardar Begum Hospital Road, Jail Road and Kutchery Road by planting saplings and plants.

Mayor Chaudhry Tauheed Akhtar says the Corporation will restore these greenbelts as part of city’s beautification plan.

POWER OUTAGES: Loadshedding has reared its ugly head once again, making the muggy weather conditions intolerable.

In Pasrur city, people staged a protest demonstration against the hours-long power outages. They kept the traffic blocked for several hours near katchery by burning tyres, and chanted slogans against the government.

RAID: The Daska police claimed on Sunday to have seized bottles of wine during a raid at a CNG filling station.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Ghayyas said Javaid Masih used his CNG filling station for selling wine which he would locally manufacture as well as bring from abroad. A case was registered against him.
