IT has been reported that the heads of Pakistan Cricket Board, Pakistan Hockey Federation and Pakistan Tennis Federation will be changed shortly. Mere changing of guard will not improve the standard of the game until we improve the infrastructure, particularly of hockey.

There is a dire need to hold a Pakistan Super League for hockey. The selectors must visit sports’ clubs, schools and colleges in search of talent. Facilities, especially astroturf, must be provided at district level. Pakistani hockey players get exhausted in international matches due to lack of practice on astroturf.

The amount of Rs150 million earmarked must be released by the elected government. Participation in international tournaments demands full preparation. New rules must be followed in letter and in spirit. The fitness of players must be ensured prior to participation in any international event. One hopes Pakistan hockey regains its former glory.
