RAWALPINDI: A fight broke out between supporters of former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and PTI winning candidate Ghulam Sarwar Khan at the Sihal Bus Terminal on Chakri Road, which left one person critically injured on Friday.

The police said the injured man, who was shot in the legs, was taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

Firing between the two groups also scared villagers and shopkeepers and passengers at the bus terminal could be seen running to take cover.

A heavy contingent of police led by the station house officer (SHO) of Saddar Bairooni also rushed to the site, a police spokesperson said in a statement.

According to the police, a group of Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s supporters led by district council member Chaudhry Imran was returning home after offering funeral prayers in the village when they came face-to-face with a group led by Chaudhry Umar at the bus terminal.

They are said to have exchanged harsh words after which men from the PTI group opened fire on the Chaudhry Nisar supporters, who also retaliated.

The injured man is said to be the brother-in-law of Chaudhry Imran.

CPO Abbas Ahsan took notice of the incident and ordered SHO Saddar Bairooni Mohammad Javed to go to the crime scene and control the law and order situation, a police spokesperson said.
