BAHAWALPUR: Two European Union (EU) observers, part of the Election Observation Mission in Pakistan-2018, arrived in Bahawalpur on Monday to observe the election-2018 in the district.

Observers Nicolete Stupu and Aleksandar Velan called on District Returning Officer (DRO) Chaudhury Tariq Javed, who is also district and sessions judge, Bahawalpur, where the DRO briefed them about the arrangements for the election -2018.

The DRO told Dawn the observers were apprised of the arrangements for polling stations in the five NA and 15 PA constituencies of Bahawalpur district. At several places, separate polling stations and polling booths for male and female voters have been set up.

Strict security measures will be taken for the peaceful balloting. He said that on the polling day, he along with the election staff and security personnel would visit polling stations to inspect the polling arrangements.

According to the DRO, the visiting observers would be free to select the polling stations for visits to witness the polling process.

The district will have 1,368 polling stations with total 3,963 polling booths, of them 68 stations have been declared sensitive.
