KARACHI: Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh on Monday expressed serious resentment against police for disclosing the arrest of a doctor around two years after he went missing and ordered the provincial police officer to conduct an inquiry.

Justice Shaikh directed Inspector General of Sindh Police Amjid Jawaid Saleemi to hold an inquiry into the matter through an officer not below the rank of senior superintendent of police.

He also asked the provincial police office to file the inquiry report within two weeks.

Abdul Razzaq had filed a petition in 2016 and contended that the law enforcement agencies had taken away his son Dr Abdul Rehman in Gulshan-i-Iqbal in December 2016 and pleaded for his recovery. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed that Dr Rehman was arrested on June 24, 2018 for allegedly collecting funds for a banned militant outfit.

The CTD officials further contended that they were unaware about the petition pending before the SHC. The chief justice came down hard on police officials and remarked how it could be possible that a man missing about two years ago was now arrested, but no intimation was given to the court.
