DACCA: The East Pakistan Governor has constituted a seven-member committee to examine the question of bifurcation of the district of Dacca, according to a gazette notification here today [July 19].
The committee will examine the feasibility of creation of one district comprising the urban areas of Dacca and Narayanganj including industrial areas and also areas which are likely to be required for further expansion and industrialisation for ensuring better administration.
The three-point reference includes the examination of whether some arrangement on the lines of the Karachi administration could be adopted for the Dacca metropolitan area comprising Dacca city and Narayanganj.
The committee will also examine the feasibility of creating another district out of the remaining areas of the district and creating new subdivision if necessary to suggest sites for further headquarters and their areas.
Headed by a member of the Board of Revenue, the committee has been asked to submit the report within three months. — Agency
