LAHORE: A policeman allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple at his residence in Mughalpura here on Tuesday.

Identified as Imtiaz Taj, the cop was working as training assistant sub inspector (TASI) at the Baghbanpura police station.

The family of the deceased alerted police after they heard a gunshot in a portion of the home and found him dead in pool of blood with a pistol in his hand.

The police teams reached the site and launched investigation to find out the reason behind suicide incident.

Quoting preliminary inquiries, Cantonment Division SP (Investigation) Shahnawaz told Dawn that the deceased was an addict.

He said his family told police that Imtiaz would take drugs to fight depression and other issues.

In recent times, he had become chronic drug user, the SP said, and dispelled an impression that the official ended his life owing to tension at the workplace.
